Public meeting to save library tonight

15/10/2018 @ 10:21

Residents incensed by the proposal to slash library services in Welshpool will be gathering for a public meeting tonight.

A whistleblower tipped us off last month that Powys County Council was planning on downgrading the popular library to share the Powysland Museum building.

The move would enable council staff to switch to the library building from Neuadd Maldwyn, on Severn Road, which could then be sold off.

But the town has united in anger with a petition gathering hundreds of names already, and a meeting will be held tonight to see what more can be done. It takes place at the Rugby Club from 7pm with everyone invited to attend.

The Council says it will send any proposals for changing the town's library services out to public consultation later this year.

The online version of the petition can be found at https://www.change.org/p/powys-county-council-save-welshpool-library
