With the area set for temperatures to dip below zero tonight, Powys County Council has activated its gritters.
The county council covers the largest network of roads in the UK and will be taking no chances as winter finally bites hard tonight.
“Winter has properly arrived!” the Highways Department posted on Facebook. “Below freezing overnight, down to - 2.5c, (so) gritting this evening and again in the morning.
“Take care out there, particularly on untreated roads.”
Road temperatures can also be several degrees lower than air temperature, so the council is taking action with the possibility of moisture trapped in the road surface freezing.
