U-turn over schools’ Xmas dinners

13/11/2018 @ 08:31

Following a wave of protest, Powys County Council has performed a u-turn over its plans to replace a traditional Christmas dinner at schools with a cost cutting kids meal including a pizza slice and a sandwich.

The revelation prior to the weekend caused outrage, with thousands of people signing a petition to call on the regional authority to think again.

And it appears to have worked with word reaching us last night of a change of heart with the councillor who launched the petition, Cllr Joy Jones, of Newtown, claiming victory.

“Powys have said that schools will now have a traditional Christmas Dinner,” she announced. “Thank you to Cllr Phyl Davies for taking on board how popular the dinner is and how much the public value it. Thank you to everyone who signed the petition. Petition closed at 5,888, that was a lot of people who signed it!”
