Welshpool misses out on High Street award

Welshpool has missed out to another Powys town, Crickhowell, in the chase to be named Britain’s Best High Street.

Welshpool made the British shortlist this summer and was even visited by the television cameras from The One programme as interest in the Visa-sponsored awards reached the whole nation.

But it was the south Powys town that caught the eye of the judges, thanks largely to more than 100 volunteers who worked round the clock in the days running up to the judges’ visit.

When Welshpool was named as one of 26 British towns on the shortlist, MyWelshpool got a mention in dispatches with the awards web site stating: “Welshpool has a tourism website for visitors alongside a local news website and is active in promoting the town through social media channels.”

While Welshpool may have missed out, the publicity over the past few months as part of the shortlist will have surely boosted the town’s profile.
