Drugs raid during police ‘day of action’

23/11/2018 @ 09:45

Dyfed-Powys Police implemented a force-wide day of action on Thursday, and it was certainly noticed by residents in the Welshpool area.

We received reports of increased police activity throughout the day with a high visual presence in the town centre and officers seen executing a drugs raid on the Coed y Bryn estate.

“Some of the officers were not local and they were digging in the garden and looking in plant pots,” said one of our readers who added that they saw one person "taken away".

The force also added that it had specialist officers checking up on registered sex offenders and accessing their tablets, phones and lap tops.

This morning, the local station has provided us with a brief on what activity they are able to share with the public which included:

·      A warrant executed in Welshpool where a quantity of Class B drug was recovered

·      Safeguarding measures in place to protect the vulnerable

·      A male wanted by the courts was arrested to presented to court Friday morning

·      Neighbourhood teams were deployed to the town centre to offer advice on crime prevention

·      Vulnerable persons within the community were visited and with support and signposting to other agencies was undertaken.

·      Care homes in the area visited by neighbourhood teams and Voluntary Police Cadets to provide crime prevention advice and general chat with the police over some biscuits and tea.

·      High visibility patrols in the town centre and residential estates took place during the day.

The theme of the day was in line with the restorative justice week using the hashtag #Powysdayofaction.
