Police investigating the savage gang attack on a man who was beaten and thrown into the canal on Friday have appealed for two women to come forward.
The pair was seen talking on their mobiles shortly before the attack at the bottom of the Spar Car Park at around 9.45pm. Police believe the women have information that could help their inquiries.
“This was a vicious and cowardly attack. The assailants were part of a larger group of men,” said Detective Inspector Diane Davies. “One or two of them were pulled into the canal with the victim so we are also appealing for anyone seen in wet clothing around that time on Friday night.”
Det. Insp. Davies said that the victim should be praised for summoning assistance following the attack despite his injuries. He was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
“I must stress that this is an unusual incident for the area and one that we are treating very seriously. We have also received excellent support from local retailers in relation to CCTV footage being made available,” she said.
