Dramatic arrest after overnight burglary

There was high drama in town during the early hours when police made an arrest following a report of a burglary.

A man was detained in a field by officers at around 4am near Severn Farm Industrial Estate following the call.

He remains in custody whilst officers secure evidence including forensic and CCTV, but they have confirmed that a number of batteries and tools have been recovered.

“It would seem likely that other persons were involved and we would appeal to any witnesses that saw any suspicious activity to contact Welshpool Police,” said a spokesperson.

“We would also advise businesses to check security of their own premises and that buildings/vehicles are locked and secure.”
