Welshpool pair rescued on Cader Idris

11/01/2019 @ 10:02

A man and a woman from the Welshpool area were rescued yesterday after becoming lost on Cader Idris.

Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team were alerted at 3.30pm that the pair of unnamed walkers were lost as the fog descended and darkness began to draw in.

Using the PhoneFind protocol to quiz their mobile phone, call-handlers were quickly able to identify that the pair had started to descend the wrong side of the mountain.

“Verbal instructions were given to steer the pair down the Foxes Path, and a small party of team volunteers headed up the hill to intercept them,” a spokesperson told us. “Everyone was safely off the hill by 4.40pm.”

The pair had climbed the mountain via the Minffordd Path and having reached the top, took a break in the summit hut. It is believed that on re-emerging from the hut they became disorientated in the fog and called for assistance.
