Three arrests after town centre assault and robbery

Police have confirmed that three men were arrested following an assault and robbery in Welshpool town centre in the early hours of Sunday

A 21-year-old man required hospital treatment following the incident in an alleyway behind the former Iceland store in the Puzzle Square area at around 3-40am on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said: "The force was made aware of a robbery in the alleyway behind Iceland, in Welshpool, at around 3.40am on Sunday, January 13. The victim – a 21-year-old man – required hospital treatment for a broken nose, cut eyes and bruised stomach following the incident.

"His mobile phone and wallet, including bank cards, were stolen.

"Three men from Welshpool were arrested in connection with the incident.

"One man has been charged with robbery, as well as assault by beating in connection with a separate incident, and has been conveyed to Welshpool Magistrates’ Court.

"Two men – aged 22 and 24 – were arrested on suspicion of robbery and have been released on bail."
