Police advice after man jailed for domestic abuse

25/01/2019 @ 01:49

The local police force is calling on silent victims of domestic violence to make the brave decision to step forward after a Meifod man was sent to jail for nearly three years earlier this month.

Tomos Pugh, 32, pleaded guilty to a breach of a restraining order, three charges of assault by beating and one charge of actual bodily harm, and was sentenced to 32 months in prison.

The offences occurred following a previous conviction for a domestic incident in May 2018 for which he was sentenced to four months in prison, suspended for 24 months, and a restraining order protecting the victim.

Speaking after sentencing, DI Steve Lloyd, said: “I am pleased that Pugh has been sentenced to prison and is no longer able to cause harm to his victim. Domestic abuse is not only physical violence. It can be sexual, emotional or financial abuse, threats and causing damage to property are all ways of controlling someone.

“I hope anyone else who has experienced similar abuse at any stage of their life can find the courage from this case to see that all reports are taken seriously by Dyfed-Powys police and fully investigated.”
