No. 14 set for change of use

31/01/2019 @ 10:02

An application to turn a town centre shop into an estate agent has been made, but it won’t be supported by the Town Council.

Halls are hoping to move into the vacant No 14 Broad Street building, but will need to successfully apply for change of use first.

The application will go to Powys County Council for final decision, but in the meantime, Welshpool Town Council said it will not be supporting the move.

“We have looked at this one and the Town Council objected in line with their Town and Community Plan Policy on the basis that shops between the traffic lights to Jehu Road should remain A1 (retail) use only,” said Town Clerk, Robert Robinson.

“The only exception would be if there was a real effort over at least six months to seek a tenant. After that maybe, and only maybe, the Town Council might support an A2 use.”

The decision has been forwarded to Powys County Council as part of their consultation process.
