The contract for running a dozen Powys County Council care homes, including Llys Hafren in Welshpool, has been awarded to Shaw healthcare.
The company will take over from Bupa who have run the homes since 1999.
The Council’s portfolio holder for Adult Social Care, Councillor Stephen Hayes, said: “We are very pleased to be able to announce our intent to partner with Shaw healthcare, a Welsh-based company which is largely staff-owned.
“As a Council our priority is to ensure safe, high quality care and support for the residents of these homes and we are confident that Shaw healthcare will be a positive partner for Powys County Council and the Powys Teaching Health Board.
The homes currently leased to Bupa are:

· Cartref Dyfi – Machynlleth
· Cartref - Hay-on-wye
· Greenhill – Crickhowell
· Llwyn Teg – Llanfyllin
· Llys Hafren – Welshpool
· Maes y Wennol – Llanidloes
· Plas Cae Crwn – Newtown
· Prestmede – Presteigne
· The Grove – Ystradgynlais
· Trenewydd – Brecon
· Wylesfield – Llandrindod
