An annual football festival set up in memory of a young local footballer has raised important funds for a number of inspiring youngsters, clubs and vital local organisations.

Andrew Lloyd, 21, was a talented player with Forden United at the time of his tragic death in 2013, and his mother Suzanne Rowlands set up the annual Andrew Lloyd Football Festival in his memory.

The tournament is a huge success and will, this year, be held on June 29 with entries being taken now.

“After another successful year, the Andrew Lloyd Football Festival Committee has made a number of donations to sponsor local sports stars and to local charities,” said Suzanne.

“Preparations for this year’s event are well under way for June 29 at the Forden community grounds. Entries are now open and the advice is not to delay as we sold out in record time last year.”

Recipients this year are:

·      Carrie Jones, Wales under 17s, Berriew under 16s and Newtown under 16s

·      Max Williams, goalkeeper for Wales under 16s and Salford FC

·      Rhys Jones bucket list. Aled Owen, to support him with his wheelchair football

·      The Honey Pot Centre who support young carers

·      Charities who also benefited were: Wales Air Ambulance, Orthopaedic Institution - Arthroplasty, St. John’s, Berriew Junior football Club, Forden United, North Powys Kidney Patients Association, Fire Fighters Charity, Buttington Musical Theatre Company and Norbury School.
