Montgomery set for illegal parking blitz

Montgomery could be set for an blitz on illegal parkers after a warning was issued by its Mayor.

The Montgomery Wales Facebook page has reported that numerous complaints had been made by motorists, pedestrians and pushchair users about parking in the town.

And now Lionel Weaver, Town Mayor, has warned that “police and traffic wardens have been contacted due to car drivers parking on pavements, across junctions or on hatched lines in various areas of the town”.

“This behaviour restricts the use of the pavement, causes difficulties for those with sight impairment, causes obstructions and dangerous reduction to visibility, and also causes problems for emergency vehicles,” he said.

“Additionally, pavements are being damaged and, with the cutbacks by the County Council, these are unlikely to be repaired so could become a trip hazard causing further problems.

“The Police and Traffic Wardens have the authority to request removal of offending vehicles or can have them removed in extreme cases.

“If you have a large vehicle and are aiming to avoid difficulties for the buses, please park it down by Whitegate Pool in the car park.”
