School meals going up 15p

20/03/2019 @ 11:42

Parents are expected to cough up an extra 15p a day for school meals from April 1, it has been confirmed.

Letters from Powys County Council have gone out to “customers” informing them of the increase to £2.45 per meal, a rise of about 6.5%. This was agreed as part of the budget that will see householders pay a whopping 9.5% extra in council tax from next month.

The letter states: “I am writing to advise you that following the Council’s budget meeting on March 7, 2019, Council Members have agreed to the cabinet’s decision to increase the school meal price from April 1, 2019.

“Our current charge for a meal of the day is £2.30, please be advised that this will increase by 15p to £2.45 per meal.”

The letter ends by thanking for “your continued support of the catering service”.
