Educating Welshpool’s ‘plastic’ population

25/03/2019 @ 08:56

The Rotary Club of Welshpool is holding a public walk-in information event on Friday to support the fight against plastic use and highlight the effect it has on the environment.

Taking place in the Town Hall’s Corn Exchange from 10am-4pm, the Plastic Waste in the Environment event will highlight the work being done to cut the local use of single use plastics.

The Club is getting involved with Philip Stallard’s initiative to clean up the River Severn, beginning from his home town of Llanidloes, and more information will be shared.

Club member, Peter Hodgson, said: “We want to encourage the public to put pressure on manufacturers and retailers to stop using single-use plastics. At the same time, we want to help people make better and more informed choices themselves, and we will be featuring responsible disposal and recycling as part of our displays.”

Local businesses and representatives of environmental organisations have been invited, as have town and county politicians. Students from Welshpool High School will be contributing to the day with materials from recent projects.

Those attending will be invited to sign a book of support.
