Caereinion Leisure Centre's sports hall is closed following the collapse of a ceiling causing many scheduled events to be moved to new venues.
It is understood that the sports hall roof suffered leaks due to broken tiles which led to a ceiling collapse. The roof was undergoing a £48,000 refurbishment which was expected to last four weeks when work started in mid-February.
“Unfortunately, the sports hall at Caereinion Leisure Centre has been forced to close for safety reasons because of problems with the roof,” a spokesperson for Powys County Council said.
“The roof suffered leaks due to broken tiles which resulted in a ceiling collapse. As a result, the hall has been closed for safety reasons and to allow a full inspection of the roof and repairs to take place.
“We apologise for the inconvenience, but the safety of centre users is our highest priority.”
