An application has been made to Powys County Council to build a drive-through restaurant next at Buttington Roundabout.
Rumours of a McDonald's coming to town have been circulating for years, but now it seems that the fast food giant, or a similar brand, is set to take a punt on Welshpool.
As a first phase, the plans will be discussed by Welshpool Town Council on April 10 with their recommendation then forwarded to Powys for the final planning decision. The application includes the demolition of two houses along with vehicular access and parking.
The owner of Harry Tuffins, Delves & Co, who have already built a petrol station on the roundabout, submitted the application last week via their agents Roger Parry & Partners.
They say the facility would create full time jobs and they are aiming for outline approval before submitting a full plan to the planning department at a later date.
The Welshpool Town Council planning meeting to discuss the application will take place at 7.15pm on April 10 in the Town Hall Council Chamber.
