Be on the look-out for dodgy log sellers

04/04/2019 @ 11:35

A friend close to one of two victims of identical crimes over the weekend fear that the items stolen could be fuelling a local black market in logs.

The rise in popularity of residential log burners has increased demand for wood and two local businesses in Forden and Guilsfield had vital heavy equipment used to cut the logs stolen.

A friend close to one of the victims believes that the two incidents are connected and has warned others in the industry to be vigilant.

“This will impact the (friend’s) business hard as it will cost a lot of money to replace the part as well as fix the damage caused to the rest of the machinery,” they told us. “It is always the hard working people that pay the price for the actions of these criminals. Please only buy logs from trusted local sellers.”

Welshpool Police have confirmed the theft of a log splitter from a farm in the Forden area on Sunday night, and readers have informed us about the theft from just outside Guilsfield, on the Arddleen Road, which happened some time over the weekend.

Anyone with information should contact Welshpool Police on 101.
