Firefighters tackle Easter blazes

21/04/2019 @ 07:33

The warm weather may have brought some welcome relief to sun seekers but our local firefighters have been on high alert these past few days.

Huge grass fires have been tackled with the latest on Saturday covering a 120-acre patch of land close to Adfa.

That blaze was attended by fire fighters from Newtown, Llanfair Caereinion and Llanidloes, but Welshpool station has also been involved in tackling further blazes in the previous days in Cefn Coch and Foel. Montgomery station has been providing cover whilst their colleagues were at the scenes.

“It was our third large grass fire this week,” said a spokesperson at the Llanfair Station last night. “Vegetation is very dry at the moment.”

No causes have been given yet on how the fires started.
