Theatre comes to the Assembly Room in the Town Hall on Friday, May 3, in the form of two One Act Plays which competed at the One Act Play Festival at Berriew and hope to go through to the All Wales final in Cardiff, where they will compete against the best plays from around Wales.
The Actors Studio will be presenting ‘Three More Sleepless Nights’, by Caryl Churchill. This is a compelling and explosive play about human interaction and complicated relationships, through the eyes of two ill-fated couples.
One double bed. Two couples. A triptych of love-tangled conversations that expertly twist and turn, from existential angst and sci-fi films, to volatile arguments and long silences. As it explores adult themes, this play is not suitable for children.
By contrast, Rebel Alliance’s ‘The portrait of Marie-Therese’, by Tim Parkes and other hands, is a chilling Victorian gothic thriller, full of mystery, intrigue and fear!
The story seeks out the truth behind the portrait of Marie-Therese that has long been shrouded in a sinister cloak of secrecy. Who was she? What happened to her? Why does death and misfortune seem to follow the painting wherever it hangs?
The performance will start at 8pm with tickets available at £8 on the door and from Ticketsource through the Rebel Alliance Community Theatre Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/rebelalliancenewtown/
