You probably thought Welshpool’s road problems couldn’t get any worse – wrong, they just did.
With work having started on Monday on a 10-week long improvement to the one-way system and Red Bank closed for two days for overhead wire work the last thing we needed was another road closure.
But that’s just what happened this afternoon and now the A490 is closed on the Welshpool side of the Guilsfield junction cutting off traffic into Welshpool and causing motorists to make long detours via Arddleen.
Hafren Dyfrdwy said: "Planned work to install a new hydrant on the A490 near Guilsfield has proved to be more complicated than we first thought, resulting in a temporary road closure being put in place, replacing the three-way traffic light system.
“This will allow our teams to work as quickly and as safely as possible, while we carry out some essential network improvements in the immediate area.
"Our teams are working extremely hard to make sure any disruption is kept to a minimum, as we continue to get everything back to normal. We’d like to thank our customers for their continued patience during this time and apologise for any disruption caused.
“The road closure will be in place until the end of work tomorrow.”
