Welshpool Town Council will consult with residents before taking on any more services if a committee recommendation is accepted.
The Council’s Policy & Strategy Committee wants to sustain existing services such as street cleaning, bin emptying and running the town’s day centre but is recommending that no new services are adopted that will impact on council tax.
The recommendation from last week’s meeting reads: “The committee recommends that the following be adopted with regards to the future assessment of council activities:
i) The Council puts forward a statement of policy for consultation which is to be: ‘The Council wishes to protect and sustain the existing services run by the Town Council and does not wish to take on any further services which will affect increases in council tax or put at risk any of the existing services provided.
ii) The Consultation shall take the form suggested which is to be:
a) To put forward the Council Policy for consultation as above to seek public support for this stance.
b) To present a list of services currently delivered by Welshpool Town Council with the cost of each service identified.
b) To ask how important the services are to the community by rating them 1 to 10 (1 being unimportant and 10 being very important).
c) To identify any new services the public may wish to see the council consider.
d) To identify any new projects the public may wish to see the council consider.
e) To identify the level of council tax – taking into account the current views of these levels.
