Dealers targeting kids aged 11, claim

Welshpool’s drug dealers are targeting kids in the town as young as 11, a concerned parent has claimed to MyWelshpool.

The warmer weather has encouraged the town’s youngsters to head out in greater numbers over the past fortnight, but worrying claims have been made that drug dealers are on the prowl, with the local police urging parents to report any suspicious activity.

The alleged incident reported to us happened at the town’s popular skate park over Bank Holiday weekend.

“Obviously as parents this is hugely concerning,” one of the parents, who asked not to be named, told us. “One of the boys was approached in front of the others and offered cannabis by an older kid. It is very worrying and we (parents) have all been talking about it and are, of course, very worried. Some of the kids in the group are only 11.”

The Town Council manages the site and has CCTV covering the area. A spokesperson said it will “speak to the Youth Club and local Police team” while Welshpool Police said they were not aware of any reports but added: “We urge parents or anyone with information to make contact with Police.”

The local police force has enjoyed considerable success over the past 12 months with a number of drugs raids and arrests.
