Cefn Bridge repairs date confirmed

21/05/2019 @ 07:57

Repairs to the Cefn Bridge will take place over a weekend at the beginning of June.

The bridge has been operating traffic lights, since an accident six months ago, with delays to it being fixed due to the added complexity of having a railway line underneath. It caused huge tailbacks over the Bank Holiday weekends.

But contractors have now sat down with railway officials to confirm that work will start on Friday, June 7, and finish two days later on the Sunday.

Local county councillor, Amanda Jenner, has been staying on top of the issue and provided the latest update.

“The dates set are June 7-9, when they've arranged with Network Rail to close the railway overnight,” she said. “There has been concern from some residents on whether the repairs will mean the road is closed. I’m told by the trunk road agency that as things stand, the road will not be closed and the works can be done with traffic lights operating the flow of traffic.”

There are growing calls for the whole bridge to be re-worked, with accidents happening on a frequent basis.
