Community Awards pack a punch

Welshpool boxing champion Warren ‘BigRig’ Sinden was among the worthy recipients of the town’s Community Awards which were handed out on Sunday.

Warren was nominated for his work in engaging with the town’s youngsters and encouraging them to become community champions through his gym, the boxing club and events like litter picks which he has organised over the past 12 months.

He follows in his father Mike’s footsteps who was a recipient in 2008 for his years of volunteer work training youngsters through the town’s boxing club.

Warren said that the award was a “team effort” and also praised the other recipients of this year’s awards.

They included town stalwart Clive Rowlands, a well-respected businessman who has dedicated decades of voluntary service to the town, particularly Welshpool Town Football Club.

There was also widespread praise for Karen Kerr who was recognised for her work with the Methodist Church Playgroup.

There was a Special Scouts Award presented to young Logan O’Connor-Lowe.

The awards followed the annual Mayor’s Parade which was held to mark Cllr Steve Kaye (pictured) serving his fourth term in office.
