More details have been released for Welshpool’s Royal Wedding celebration at the end of the month which is set to be an event to live long in the memory.
As we revealed last month, Powis Castle will be open to thousands of people looking to celebrate a classic British occasion with a 100 square metre screen erected in the garden to capture all the action when HRH Prince William walks Kate Middleton down the aisle of Westminster Abbey on April 29.
And Welshpool Town Council has also confirmed that every local infant and primary school kid will receive a mug to mark the occasion, reminiscent of the giveaways that were commonplace when Prince Charles married Lady Diana 30 years ago.
Further details released include, from 9.30am, a procession led by the Newtown Minstrels Marching Band from the Castle Gates in Park Lane to the Castle itself when everyone is welcome to join.
Welshpool Town Council is running a classic bus shuttle service throughout the day, starting at 9.30am from the Co-operative car park in Berriew Street.
The castle’s tea rooms and restaurant will be open, while families are being encouraged to bring their own picnics to enjoy on the lawns.
There will also be a wide selection of community stalls and entertainment on the castle’s Great Lawn, including renowned local young harpist Ellie Jones, face painting, balloon modelling, magician, youth theatre displays and workshops, and a host of other attractions for visitors of all ages.
A large marquee will host a fancy dress competition which any child can enter with the theme being, topically, ‘Kings and Queens’. Adults can take part too, the adult theme being ‘Bride and Groom’ and there are prizes for all ages.
Family competitions, including classics such as the egg and spoon race, will also be held while further attractions are still being confirmed to ensure that the day is memorable, and not just for William and Kate.
