Monday Street Market returns

17/04/2011 @ 05:02

The Monday street market returns to Welshpool’s town centre tomorrow with planners hoping it will help to lure shoppers back into town.

Traders have reported a big drop in takings since the opening of the town’s one-way system and Tesco but the return of the outdoor market is one of the ideas created to try and halt the decline.

“This is a another step forward for Welshpool,” said Town Clerk Robert Robinson. “It will start on Broad Street with seven stalls and by mid-May the market will extend further up the street with 19 stalls.”

Those first seven stalls will sell items ranging from fruit and veg and wet fish to linen, batteries and electrical items.

The market village in the Town Hall will continue to be open six days a week.
