Open meeting over Rodney’s Pillar future

04/07/2019 @ 10:54

It has provided an iconic welcome to Wales for over 200 years, but time is catching up with Rodney’s Pillar and its future is now in our hands.

Work is needed to be carried out on the Grade II listed monument or there will be a question mark over whether it can continue as a popular place to visit.

A rallying call has gone out to attend an open meeting on July 8, where an update will be provided and the next course of action.

The meeting is being organised by Llandrinio & Arddleen Community Council but it is hoped that a ‘Friends of Rodney’s Pillar’ group can be set up to fund raise and project manage the essential repairs.

The meeting will take place at Criggion Village Hall from 7.30pm.

Admiral Rodney’s Pillar was built in 1781–82 to commemorate the naval victories of Sir George Brydges Rodney, Admiral of the White.
