More than 70 people turned out on Sunday for a walk held on the sixth anniversary of the death of local soldier Paul Thomas.
Corporal Thomas, of Buttington, died whilst fighting militia in Iraq, aged just 29, but he was remembered by friends, family and well wishers alike and charity will benefit from £1,100 raised on the day.
Organiser Alan Crowe said: “It was an excellent day all round. The weather was right; we had a good turn-out of people and raised a considerable amount of money. My sincere thanks to everyone involved - helpers, walkers and so forth.”
So far £1,100 has been raised which will be divided between the Welshpool & District Branch of the Royal British Legion and Help For Heroes.
Anyone who was unable to take part and would like to make a donation can do so in person at the Tourist Information Centre, Welshpool or Health Focus Canal Yard, Welshpool.
