Rogue BT cable impacting entire job

01/08/2019 @ 12:48

Planners have conceded that last week’s discovery of a rogue BT cable that will delay the one-way work by six weeks is impacting other parts of the job.

Despite a promise to be finished by July 29, motorists will have to endure a full summer of frustration after the surprise discovery of the unregistered fibre optic cable in Union Street.

However, residents have been quick to ask why other areas of the town centre are still not finished.

“The knock-on effect of the services cables issue in Union Street has delayed some works,” said Town Clerk Robert Robinson in his latest briefing.

Other updates include:

·      Work to small areas of pavement are being picked up as areas are completed

·      Junction by NFU - ongoing with completion by August 9

·      Church Street works - completion by August 16

·      Traffic lights on the Cross are to be on manual control from Friday mid-day to 6pm and again on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.

·      White lining to Broad Street to be completed later next week

·      Work by Town Hall to be completed by August 9. The Zebra Crossing will only open when Brook Street/Union Street is two-way

·      Works at the junction with Jehu Road/High Street - completion August 16. However, from tomorrow to Monday all roads will be open

·      New railings from Westwood to Church Bank are due to be installed very soon
