A 77-year-old man sadly died in the smash that closed the Welshpool to Arddleen road on Saturday.

Dyfed-Powys Police said it is appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision which occurred at around 4.30pm on the A483.

Three vehicles were involved – a blue Ford Fusion, a black Vauxhall Astra and a Morrisons lorry.

Sadly, the 77-year-old man driving the Ford sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. His next of kin is aware. Several casualties were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“Anyone travelling along this road at the time of the collision who has dashcam footage, or saw the collision or the vehicles involved, is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit,” said a spokesperson.

“You can report information either online at http://bit.ly/DPPReportOnline, by email at contactcentre@dyfed-powys.pnn.police.uk. You can also call 101.”

It has been a terrible fortnight for the roads around Welshpool with at least one other death caused by up to six serious incidents now reported.
