The application to replace decrepit farm buildings with new ones at a Powys County Council Farm called Maesgwyn Uchaf (pictured) near Guilsfield has been approved by its planning committee.

Planning officer, Tamsin Law, explained that prior notification had been requested to build two general purpose agricultural buildings. These are to replace the existing ones due to health and safety concerns with the buildings are falling down and asbestos located.

One barn will measure 12.1 metres in length and six metres in width, and 5.4 metres in height to the ridge giving a total floor space of 74.2 metres squared.

The second barn will measure 18.2 metres in length, 12.2 metres in width, 5.4 metres in height to the ridge, giving a total floor space of 222.9 metres squared.

Ms Law added that the buildings would be erected on the western side of the holding.

“Officers consider that the proposed development constitutes permitted development and therefore full planning permission is not required and neither is prior approval of the details of the scheme,” she said. “The recommendation is therefore one of approval.”

The application was passed unanimously.
