Fire alarm glitch closed Town Hall

Volunteers saved the day and ensured that the Town Hall remained open all Bank Holiday weekend despite a faulty fire alarm.

Friday tests revealed issues with the system, leading to an immediate evacuation of the building.

However, this was only temporary as the emergency fire procedures were put into action with a rota of volunteers on hand to act as fire wardens.

“The reason we had to evacuate the Town Hall is because part of that procedure includes setting up the volunteer fire warden rota,” said a town council spokesperson.

“This was done on Friday afternoon and we opened again on Saturday morning.”

It is not known how long the fault has been there.

It was a busy weekend at the Town Hall with the traders also joined by the Rotary Club’s book sale.
