Welshpool Town Council and Powys County Council (PCC) are set for a collision course over plans to move the library services into Powysland Museum.
Councillors voted unanimously, with one abstaining due to being a member of the PCC planning committee, to objecting to a change of use for the library to become office space. The move is needed so that PCC can move staff from its Neuadd Maldwyn building which will be handed over to a care company.
The final decision will be made by PCC on September 12, when Save Welshpool Library protesters are also planning to make their opinions known at County Hall.
But will it make a difference? PCC has already granted planning permission for the work to be done and despite thousands signing a petition and hundreds taking part in a protest march, many fear the decision will be rubber stamped in Llandrindod Wells.
