Welshpool Livestock Sales report on a highly successful auction at Buttington Cross Welshpool on Monday 25^th April 2011.

An entry of 55 sold to a very good average of 117ppkg for the 45 cows, 2 bulls to 129ppkg, 7 under 48month old heifers to 119ppkg and a under 48month old steer to 144pkg. V T Hamer Trinnat sold two Limousin cow to a top price of £1195.84 and £1168.50. J Goodwin Upper Cellws sold a Limousin cow to £1099.62. A Charolais bull from T T Jones Glyn Farm sold for £1430.61. V T Hamer Trinnant receives the Briarwood Products prize of £25 for the highest price older cow sold on the day.

6 steer averaged 156ppkg and 10 heifers averaged 171ppkg. GW & BA Haynes Trefnant Isaf sold 4 heifers to top the market at 186ppkg, 179ppkg, 176ppkg and 171ppkg. Evans Brothers Tynewydd sold 5 steers to a top price of 180ppkg and a heifer to 161ppkg. GW & BA Haynes receive the Briarwood Products Ltd prize of £25 for the highest ppkg animal sold on the day.

 

An entry of 765 spring lambs, selling to an average of 283ppkg.

Standards (397) to 308ppkg from J Corfield & Sons Fairfield. Others to 305ppkg from J E Lewis Coedyweeg. Average of 288ppkg.

Mediums (333) to 307ppkg from TM & MP Evans & Son Wern Farm. Others to 302ppkg from BE & BE Langford Lletymeibion. Average of 278ppkg.

Heavy’s (10) to 275ppkg from G H Daulby Rhos Farm. Average of 269ppkg.

 

An entry of 3675 Prime Hoggets, selling to an average of 235ppkg.  

Super Lights (52) to 213ppkg from D T Owen Tynddol. Average of 204ppkg. 

Lights (219) to 233ppkg from E T Owen & Son Llwydiarth. Others to 222ppkg from W I Ellis Talwrn. Average of 219ppkg.

Standards (621) to 244ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Others to 236ppkg from E Jones & Son Rhos Farm. Average of 218ppkg. 

Mediums (1086) to 269ppkg from D E Morgan & Co Cefntwlch. Others to 268ppkg from W G Jones Cwmduggan. Average of 245ppkg. 

Heavies (869) to 257ppkg from R Harris Fron Farm. Others to 254ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Average of 237ppkg.

Over Weights (484) to 223ppkg from FG & G Mountford Middle Heldre. Others to 221ppkg from M & GV Ellis & Son Penllys. Average of 200ppkg.

 

A slightly reduced entry of cull sheep sold to average at £70.86 for the ewes and £83.87 for the rams. Cull ewes topped at £130 per head from G E Davies & Sons Cwmbromley. H M Powell White House sold ewes to £123 per head. S & M Meredith sold a cull ram to a top price of £131 per head.

 

A small entry of store lambs sold to £73.50 for wether lambs from BTR & R Gittins Lower Sylfaen with several other lots to £70 per head.

A large entry of 452 couples and their lambs sold to probably the fastest trade ever. Top prices were £222 from W K Davies Offa Way for ewes with twin lambs, with excellent aged ewes with twin lambs from E Jackson Lane Farm selling to £208 and ewes and lambs from R T Davies & Son Bwlchgarreg selling to £205. The first time a large group of Hoggs and lambs broke the £200 barrier with N Samuel Lower Ystrad selling strong mule hoggs and Suffolk cross lambs to £200. More couples of all types next week with sale at 10.30am. 53 Cade lambs averaged 317.83 to £30 (x2).

 

A catalogue sale of Dairy cows took place today, with a Friesian 1^st calver from GM & U Thomas Bwlchygraig selling to a top market price of £2000. D A & O Williams sold two heifers to £1940 and £1760. JG & MWA Clayton Great Brimmon sold a cow to £1600. Next sale of Dairy cows and Heifers will take place on Monday 9^th May 2011.
