New £10m police Centre to open 2011

Local policing is set to be boosted by a new £10m Strategic Coordination Centre which will open in the summer of 2011.

The building is mainly funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, who announced over a year ago that £10 million was to be allocated from the strategic capital investment fund for the development of three Strategic Coordination Centres in Wales.

The centre at Dyfed Powys Police HQ in Carmarthen will provide a wide range of facilities to ensure that Dyfed Powys Police is capable of an appropriate response to any civil emergency. It will include command and coordination provision for multi agency occupation during critical incidents or civil emergencies – and the initiative will significantly improve multi agency response to major incidents in Wales.

The design is highly functional and includes provision of multi agency based facilities, capable of being used to deliver All Wales training in addition to local police training for Dyfed Powys. It also incorporates conference facilities that can be used by both Dyfed Powys Police and its partner agencies.

Assistant Chief Constable Mr Nick Ingram said: “The funding secured from the Welsh Assembly Government to develop three Strategic Coordination centres in Wales, has ensured that Dyfed Powys Police will be able to plan for and respond to emergencies with our partner agencies in the most effective way possible. It will also be a huge asset, providing the most up to date training for our police officers and their partners, so that we can deliver the best quality service possible to our communities.”
