Watch the wedding on world’s biggest screen!

Thousands of revellers are expected to turn Powis Castle gardens into a blaze of patriotic colour tomorrow (Friday) for one of the biggest parties Welshpool has ever hosted.

And we can exclusively reveal that the Party in the Park will feature the world’s biggest outdoor screen, at a whopping 100 square metres, meaning Powis Castle will become one of the country’s top venues to see all the action live from London.

The town will throw open its most famous venue for free from 9.30am for a family filled day when HRH Prince William ties the knot with Kate Middleton (pictured). But the weather looks unpredictable so the advice is to prepare for showers just in case but there will be plenty of room for tents, bbq’s and entertainment.

“It is going to be one huge party!” said Robert Robinson, Town Clerk for Welshpool Town Council who are organising the event in conjunction with Powis Castle and The National Trust. “There has been a tremendous job done behind the scenes by a number of people to ensure we can all look forward to a day to remember. We have been told by the company providing the screen that it is the biggest of its kind in the world so everyone can see the ceremony no matter where they may be in the park.”

The park opens at 9.30am when the Newtown Minstrels band will lead a procession into the gardens from Park Lane gates. The wedding ceremony gets underway in London at 11am and is expected to end with a flyover over Buckingham Palace at around 1.30pm.

In Welshpool, revellers are encouraged to bring their own picnics and enjoy the entertainment provided by a variety of organisations and artists including the Montgomeryshire Youth Theatre and local harpist Ellie Jones. There will also be traditional fairground games and stalls as well as a small market village for charities and organisations.

Prizes will be offered for fancy dress with the children’s theme being ‘Kings and Queens’ and the adults being ‘Bride and Groom’. There will also be wedding cake served on a first come first served basis. The cakes have been donated by Sidoli’s, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Co-op.

A classic bus service will leave the Co-op every half hour from 9.30am.

Meanwhile, Montgomery is also expected to host a big street party on Broad Street. Others are planned for Newtown, Llandinam and Llanidloes.

A spokesperson for Powys County Council said: “We have had eight applications to close roads in Powys but there will of course be other parties held in cul-de-sacs, community centres and on private land.”
