Police last night slapped an £80 fine on a man for buying alcohol for Under 18s as they continue their clampdown on underage drinking and anti-social behaviour.
Officers approached a group of youths in the town centre suspected of boozing and issued the notice to the adult who was drinking with the group.
A police insider said: “Underage drinking increases in the summer months which leads to antisocial behaviour so we will be undertaking patrols. Alcohol will be confiscated from under 18s and any adults found buying it for them will be fined or possibly face a visit to court.”
The spokesperson also said that the parents or guardians of underage boozers will be contacted.
