Landslide-hit road to re-open next week

11/10/2019 @ 01:12

The extent of the landlisde that smashed into a local main road two weeks ago has been revealed.

The picture, provided by Powys County Council, shows the work required to clear the A490 near Valley View Holiday Park, Pentre’r Bierdd, after it was smashed by thousands of tonnes of mud, rocks and trees.

However there is hope that the road may open early next week with excavators today removing the last soil and installing a drainage ditch to direct surface water on site to positive drainage.

However, with heavy rainfall expected over the next 48 hours, the road will remain closed over the weekend.

Arrangements will be made to clean up the A490 on Monday. A further site visit will take place following the clean-up with a view to re-opening the road Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “We appreciate the inconvenience the public has experienced and apologise for the length of time this road closure has been in place but the safety of road users is paramount and will always take priority.”
