Praise floods in for weekend operation

Powys Highways staff have been praised after they distributed more than 1,000 sandbags during flooding operations at the weekend.

While widespread praise has flooded in for the emergency services, Cabinet Member for Highways and Waste Management, Councillor Heulwen Hulme, praised staff for the hard work protecting properties, business and road users after severe weather brought torrential rain to the county.

“I have to thank all Operatives, Supervisors, Managers and Duty Officers for their huge effort in attending to the numerous flooding events that occurred over Saturday. I can’t speak highly enough of the commitment shown by all.

“There is no bigger demand on our service than flooding and the requests for help from both the general public, internal departments and the emergency services were considerable to say the least, but bit by bit our teams put measures in place to deal with every event.

“They also dealt with road closures protecting road users, working with neighbouring authorities and emergency services to sign-post flooding. A huge thanks to them all. It was a fantastic effort.”
