Key performance indicators used to track how Powys County Council is doing against priorities in its Vision 2025 show inconsistent performance, the council’s cabinet will be told.
The latest performance data for the council’s Corporate Improvement Plan being presented to the cabinet on November 5 will show overall performance is good with 88 per cent of activities on target at the end of the second quarter.
But, performance against the council’s top measures deteriorated during the period compared to quarter one with only 30 per cent of targets being achieved.
Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance, Councillor Aled Davies said: “Overall performance remains steady and there are areas showing real improvement, but there are still areas of variation across our performance framework. To address this Portfolio Holders, Corporate Directors and Heads of Service are discussing and agreeing improvement actions to bring performance back on track.
“We must do more to deliver against all our measures and action is already well-underway in areas identified as needing improvement.
“The main area which resulted in the decline was Education. The service is being supported with a strengthened leadership team and is developing a robust action plan in response to the Estyn Inspection recommendations to drive improvements.
“Two risks relating to education service performance are also being considered for inclusion on the Council’s Strategic Risk Register to make sure they are closely monitored. The action will help reduce the risk of the council falling further behind in terms of performance and schools’ deficit budgets.
“High quality data is essential if we are to maintain service improvements. The latest figures show that despite continuing financial pressures we are delivering on priorities set out in the council’s Vision 2025.
“We must do more to deliver against all our measure and action is already well-underway in areas identified as needing improvement.”
