Flu concern as vaccines run low

08/11/2019 @ 09:12

Planned flu vaccinations in local schools have been cancelled due to a national shortage of vaccines.

Parents have been informed that sessions have been “postponed temporarily due to unexpected issues with the nasal spray flu vaccine supply across the UK”.

Powys Teaching Health Board informed parents that until supply returns to planned levels, the current stock is being prioritised for children with a long term health condition, and younger children aged two or three on August 31.

“Flu can sometimes cause serious complications, especially in those with health conditions, so if your child has a long-term health condition, for example asthma that requires inhaled corticosteroids, a heart condition, or diabetes, it is important they get their flu vaccine so please contact your GP surgery,” PTHB said in their letter to parents.
