Heavy rain means flooding again for the Welshpool area

Heavy rain is causing serious problems across the Welshpool region again today.

With the clear-up from the last flooding barely completed motorists are again finding routes blocked, farmers are being forced to move livestock and home owners are moving quickly to protect their properties.

The problems follow a night and day of heavy rain, with snow on higher ground, on an already sodden countryside which s leading to serious flooding issues.

With the Severn banks broken the Welshpool-Forden Road is again closed at the Montgomeryshire Airport with further problems caused by a fallen tree between Coed-y-dinas and Welshpool.

Llanfair Firefighters have been called in to cover a stretched Welshpool service and there are reports of blocked roads in the Llandrinio area.

Motorists are being advised to stay at home unless their journeys are absolutely necessary.
