Medical Centre CCTV put to early use

13/02/2020 @ 09:55

A worrying incident at Welshpool Medical Centre proved the usefulness of its new CCTV system, after a patient became verbally aggressive and abusive to staff.

The new system, which records both video and sound, captured the incident when the irate patient continued his attack over a considerable length of time and refused to leave the premises.

It resulted in the police being called, and while they were on their way his anti-social behaviour and foul language is said to have been directed at other patients, including a young mother and her baby.

When the police arrived, the man was escorted to another part of the building, and officers were able to access the video and audio recording of the whole incident.

The police investigation is continuing and the final outcome awaited. The patient has been removed from the Medical Centre’s list by the Health Board and he is now registered with another Powys practice under their Violent Patient Scheme.

A spokesperson for the Medical Centre said: “The CCTV has been installed to protect the safety of staff and patients.”
