Strike action suspended

Industrial action by HGV drivers working for Wynnstay Agricultural Supplies Limited has been suspended in order to allow conciliation talks, chaired by Acas, to take place.

The action by HGV drivers working from both the Llansantffraid and Carmarthen depots was due to commence with a 24-hour strike on March 2. Talks between the employer and the union will now take place on the same date.

Jo Goodchild, Unite regional officer, commented: “Unite is hopeful that Wynnstay has reflected on its decision to attack its employees terms and conditions and will now take a different route.

“We will enter into these talks in a constructive manner with a view to resolving this dispute in an amicable way. However, if progress is not made then the prospect of industrial action remains firmly on the table.”

Drivers were said to be unhappy over a new pay structure.

A previous statement on behalf of the company stated: “Wynnstay confirms that it continues in discussions with its drivers, and endeavours to proceed constructively and productively so that an acceptable agreement can be reached.”
