Become a local litter hero!

10/03/2020 @ 08:34

Spring is notoriously a time when litter seems to spike so a campaign is underway to help keep the Welshpool area clean and tidy.

The county council has teamed up with Keep Wales Tidy to ensure our area remains a wonderful place to live and visit as the tourist season approaches, with a big push being held from March 20-April 13.

This year’s campaign will not only see tonnes of litter being removed from the environment on our doorstep, it also aims to rescue thousands of the plastic bottles and aluminium drinks cans that are simply thrown on the ground which should have been easily recycled.

“We know how much the Welshpool area cares about the environment in our beautiful county, so we are delighted to be joining forces with Keep Wales Tidy again this year in a bid to encourage community groups to come together and join in with the 2020 Spring Clean Cymru campaign,” says Cllr Heulwen Hulme, Cabinet Member for Recycling and Waste.

“Litter picking toolkits, containing everything you need, can be borrowed from some of our libraries, so please pop in or reserve your kit online and organise a spring clean for your local area soon.”

Litter picking toolkits, containing litter pickers, hoops, hi-vis vests and bin bags are available to borrow from Welshpool and Newtown libraries.
