Firefighters from stations across the Welshpool area were called upon to bring a blaze under control yesterday (Sunday).

The initial call came in shortly after 2pm to the commercial premises close to the sports fields by the by-pass, with smoke seen for miles throughout the Severn Valley.

The building, measuring approximately 25 meters x 75 meters, was well alight and contained approximately 30 tonnes of straw, a telehandler and numerous agricultural machinery.

Two breathing apparatus, two hose reel jets, two 45mm jets and a thermal imaging camera were used by firefighters during the incident.

Crews were also involved in protecting buildings that were adjacent to the affected property.

Crews left the incident at 8:57pm and the incident was left open overnight.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service re-inspected at 8am this morning, and the incident was closed at 8.33am.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
