Fears that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic could derail one of our favourite attractions have been eased by the generosity of the local community.
Since we highlighted the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway’s appeal last month for the community to give what they can to stay on track during the Government restrictions, a whopping £22,000 has been raised.
And last night, officials praised the incredible support and vowed to fight on so that one of our best-loved attractions can open for business as soon as permitted.
“We’re extremely grateful to our followers, members and the local community for their help in reaching £22,000 in for our Tracks to Recovery Appeal,” said a spokesperson.
“Your help is ensuring that the W&L emerges from our present circumstances in a good state. From the bottom of our big railway heart, thank-you.
“It is so important that we carry on fundraising to ensure our reserves are not eroded and that we can be doing amazing things, like running 117-year-old engines, again soon.”
The Railway brings in valuable income to the area with thousands of tourists riding the train every year.
