Covid-19 symptoms at second Welshpool care home

21/04/2020 @ 03:47

As The Rhallt continues to fight the devastating impact of Covid-19 which has sadly claimed the lives of several residents, a second Welshpool care home confirmed that several residents are presenting symptoms.

While not confirming numbers, The Rhallt has sadly revealed that several of its residents had died, plunging Welshpool right into the middle of the global fight against the virus.

And now, Llys Hafren, a 40-bed residential care home which is run by Shaw healthcare on behalf of Powys County Council, said that it too had patients who were presenting symptoms.

Mike Smith, chief operating officer at Shaw healthcare, said: “There are some residents at Llys Hafren who are presenting symptoms consistent with COVID-19.

“Residents who have presented symptoms are receiving care in line with Public Health Wales and national guidelines.

“If any resident requires care greater than we can provide, irrespective of whether they are displaying symptoms of Coronavirus, they are admitted to hospital in line with local admission guidelines.

“We are very proud of our amazing frontline care teams who have been providing our usual high level of care during these incredibly difficult times and hope that everyone continues to follow national guidelines and stays safe.”

Powys has published low figures for those infected in the county due to a lack of testing carried out, but Public Health Wales has warned local residents to expect it to be present throughout every community.

Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) is still circulating in every part of Wales, and the single most important action we can all take in fighting the virus is to stay at home.”
